Maxim Delivers First RF Transceiver With Antenna Diversity Switches
![](http://www.eepn.com/images/Articles/35313.jpg)
Embarking as the industry's first transceiver to integrate Rx/Tx and antenna diversity switches, the MAX2830 direct-conversion, 802.11g/b RF transceiver also squeezes in a power amplifier and crystal oscillator circuitry. Saving 10 mm x 10 mm of board space, the device is a viable candidate for Wi-Fi, PDA, VoIP, and cellular handset applications. The transceiver operates from a 2.7V to 3.6V supply and the power amp from 2.7V to 4.2V. The receiver consumes 62 mA in receive mode while achieving a noise figure of 3.3 dB, enabling a receive sensitivity of –75 dBm (64QAM OFDM) without an external low-noise amp. Additionally, the transmitter and power amp deliver a linear transmit power of +17 dBm (64QAM OFDM) after the switch. A 20 mA shutdown mode is also on chip. Available in a leadless, 48-pin 7 mm x 7 mm TQFN-EP, pricing starts at $5.97 each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
